Proposed Outdoor Track Rental Dates

WTC is in the midst of negotiating our use of the McClimon track for track practices for 2009. The athletic department may be significantly raising our rates, so we are trying to minimize the number of hours of track usage. Here is a set of proposed hours:
Wednesdays 4/8 5/27, and Tuesdays 6/2 10/20 all from 6:00pm 7:00pm
Note these times are similar to what we've had before, except that they are:
--only one day per week
--only one hour per day
--half an hour later start than what we had last year.
If you plan on coming to practice this spring, this summer, or next fall, and you would not be able to make these times, then please write back to me as soon as practical, telling me what times would be better.
March Meeting Minutes

In lieu of our President, who is out of the country, I'm sending out a quick recap of our March meeting which was held this past Wednesday the 11th.
Our first issue, that of NCAA compliance, has been, and will continue to be, a thorny issue.
In order to fully establish with the UW Athletic Department that we are indeed a Registered Student Organization and that we do not have any members which are deemed "Prospective Student Athletes," the Board of Directors voted 7 to 1 to pass an amendment to our bylaws. The amendment, which can be seen on the updated version of the Bylaws here on the website, is as follows:
Section 4: PROSPECTIVE STUDENT-ATHLETES. Prospective Student-Athletes, as defined by NCAA Division 1 Operating Bylaws 13.02.11 and 13.02.11.1, may not be members of the Wisconsin Track Club.
We also discussed other options for securing use of the McClimon and/or other tracks for practices and STS. We agreed to pursue departmental sponsorship for the Club which would make our hourly charge for track use $25/hour. We are first seeking sponsorship from the Physics Department. We will also pursue having the Summer Track Series meets at Verona to reduce our hourly usage of McClimon.
The second item on the agenda called for quick discussion of Officer Bios on our website. Those at the meeting agreed to resurrect Officer page bios, which used to be on the website many years ago. This will allow club members, new and old, to get an idea of who our officers and other Board of Director members are.
The third and final item was a short Capitol Mile discussion.
The WTC is looking for volunteers for the following positions:
Volunteer Coordinator
T-shirt Coordinator
Co-Director
Advertising Coordinator

March Meeting, Wed. the 11th @ 7:30pm

This Wednesday is the second Wednesday of the month, and that means it's time for our monthly club meeting! We didn't get a room at Memorial Union, so instead we've been assigned room 2241 Chamberlain Hall (the physics building). Just go in the front doors on University and the room is one of the big lecture halls just slightly to the right. The meeting will begin at 7:30pm.
The agenda includes prospective amendment of the club bylaws to prohibit high school members in order to satisfy the UW Athletic Department's concerns about NCAA compliance issues, application for departmental sponsorship, and other prospective methods to either reduce time on the outdoor track or reduce the rates we are charged for its use. I would urge any members who value use of the outdoor track to attend.
The agenda will also include some early planning for the Capital Mile event, which will be held on Sunday July 26th, so I would also urge any interested in being involved in the early planning stages of the event (t-shirts, advertising, logo design, etc.) to attend as well.
